Mortens Aften
Nov. 11th, 2020 05:53 pmMortens Aften is a special evening for me. I first celebrated it in November 2018, when I had lived in Denmark for only 2 months. It was the first time I met the people who have now become my adopted family in Denmark. Back then I could only follow a little of the conversation .. but I loved the food!
It has become a sort of milestone for me to measure my progress in Danish. Mortens Aften 2019 was a surprise for me, because I noticed I could understand the conversation much more easily. It felt like everyone was speaking more slowly, but of course they weren’t. My comprehension had become faster, but it was tiring for me. I had to concentrate hard.
Last night was my third Mortens Aften. Again the same people, who I have come to love, and who love me too. Not only could I understand all the conversation without even trying, I could also join in with much more of it. Of course, I still have an accent when I speak Danish, but I am understood, and that’s the most important thing for me.
Oh yeah, and I still love the food!
